Omar's got to go!!!!

Today i received an email from the new york Mets thanking me for my support this year and basically patting themselves on the back for having drawn 3.15 million fans this season. i was in shock. How the hell could they be so happy. The Mets have become the first team in a decade to open a brand new stadium and not only not make a playoff run, but have such a horrible losing record. What is wrong with the Mets? Everybody has injuries. Someone has to be the fall guy for this debacle. His name is Omar Minaya!!
When the Mets signed Omar, everyone thought that this guy was an up and coming star. His first big splash in new york was bringing in Carlos Beltran and Pedro Martinez. Then he brought in Moises Alou and signed Willie Randolph as his manager. We (meaning met fans) were ecstatic and skeptical at the same time, but we thought that the big move was coming next. That move was to bring Sammy Sosa to new york. That move at that time would have been gigantic. Sammy needed to be somewhere in a big market and he would have become the king of new york.. Whether he did steroids or not would not have mattered. Met fans have had other drug scandals rock this team and they won. Sammy goes to Baltimore and basically falls apart. That made Omar look like a genius but had he signed Sosa, he would have rejuvenated him just he rejuvenated Pedro when he signed here.
Which leads to me to problem 2. why did he hire Willie Randolph if he was trying to turn the Mets into team Latin America? Sandy Alomar SR. was available. Felipe Alou would have come to New york in a second. He put Willie in a situation where Willie could not win. The Latin players all banned together and pouted together when they could have their way and distanced themselves from the other players. He kept on adding more Latin players. The great Johan Santana, Luis Castillo. Oliver Perez. K-rod. Carlos Delgado. just to name a few. He brought two players from his days with the Nationals Brian Schneider and "Mr injury" Ryan Church and thought the has built this" amazin'" team. This team would have been great 7 years ago.
How do you build a team of Latin has been and don't give a Latin manager to relate to? Just because Willie was a disciple of Joe Torre doesn't mean that everything that worked for Joe will work for Willie!!! if you look at Torre's teams he had variety. He had a great mix of players by age, race, and skill level. Even the dodgers today have an eclectic mix of players.
problem 3, how do you not make a play for Matt Holiday? you signed putz and K-rod within a few weeks of one another and allow Holiday to go to the A's and languish there when he could have been a met for the same type of players that Colorado got!! The mets started the season with only Beltran as a legitimate outfielder. Sheffield is like 65 years old and was a D.H. most of last year with the Tigers. Plus he was coming off an injury plagued season. He had outfielders playing the infield and infielders playing the outfield. We looked like a Single A ball club each night. The Mets are not a small market team. We have money and if you had signed Holiday in the off season we would have been on a plane to new york to watch the Mets daily. Instead, you allowed the Yankees to steal the spotlight once again and now they are in the playoffs and so is Holiday. So is Manny Ramirez. So is Pedro!! How do you explain not signing Pedro and allowing Tim Redding and Livan Hernandez to be our 5th starter?
My entire point is that Omar is fizzling out like a supernova. He could have made the big splash in new york like Brian Cashman has with the Yankees. the Yankees go for the ring no matter what and deal with the consequences later. the Mets cross their fingers and hope for the best. He needs to go. This team has had so many sorry moments this year that it would ten thousand pieces of paper to chronicle them all. The drop by Murphy against Florida early in the season spoiling Santana's gem. the drop by Castillo at Yankees stadium. not covering second base on double plays or force outs in games. This team needs a stick of dynamite shoved so far up their asses. Omar needs to go.. He as destroyed this team. For David Wright, I pray that you take the team over and lead us out of the land of despair.
